Ferrier created this book for the summer 2012 exhibition "Journeys: Travels in the Natural and Spirit Worlds." When she heard the theme, she knew immediately what her subject would be: crows.
"If we talk about journeys, we talk about crows! They're considered migratory birds, but they're really commuters. They have a daily schedule to follow." Ferrier has even included their schedule in her book, an imagined timetable detailing where and when to peck, preen, caw and snack.
Ferrier notes that everyone has a different opinion about crows, ranging from positive to negative. Her handmade book--bound in paste paper Ferrier created--collects crow facts, legends and anecdotes, presenting the full spectrum. Her watercolor illustrations complete the portrait of this complex, intelligent, mischievous bird.
